Fingerprint GUI Description

Use Fingerprint Devices with Linux Fingerprint GUI is a set of graphical user interface tools for the use of fingerprint scanners on Linux-based operating systems. It enables the recording and checking of fingerprints of users and allows login and authentication of users by their fingerprint through its PAM module. An additional "fingerprintIdentifier" application can be used for customized (shell) scripts when users have to be identified or authenticated by their fingerprints. The system is based on device drivers from the "libfprint" project.Tested environments:Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04 (32bit and 64bit) with GDM, Fedora 10 (32bit) with GDM.Tested devices:Built-In UPEK Fingerprint Reader (Vendor 483, Device 2016).Standalone device with AuthenTec AES2501A (Vendor 8FF, Device 2580). Limitations: · KDE enviroments: The "Fingerprint PAM" does not work for login and unlocking kscreensver due to a bug in kdm and kscreensaver. Please have a look at the bugreports 182623 and 105631 and vote for it! · If you have tested the project on a system not listed below, please send me a note about your results. If it works we can add your system to the list. What's New in This Release: · The "with-upek" binaries make use of UPEKs libbsapi version 3.6 now. These are now available as native 32bit and 64bit applications.
