STonX Description

STonX is an Atari ST Emulator intended primarily for use with Unix and the X Window System. STonX is an Atari ST Emulator intended primarily for use with Unix and the X Window System. Here are some key features of "STonX": · MC68000 CPU emulation · 4 or 14MB RAM · Color or Monochrome Atari ST graphics modes (1, 2 or 4 bitplanes); resolutions may be tweaked (e.g. 800x608x16) with some limitations. · YM2149 sound chip emulation for Linux, FreeBSD, Irix, Solaris/SPARC, SunOS and HP-UX (if audio is supported by the hardware, of course). · IKBD (partly) · BIOS-level disk routines (using "Diskfiles" to emulate floppy disks or harddisk partitions). · Bootable Unix filesystem interface - no need for Diskfiles anymore! (buggy) · FDC emulation, complete enough to boot and run some games. · Mega ST(E) clock chip (buggy). · Serial and parallel ports (limited emulation). · VDI-Driver for Xlib - speeds up the graphics output of "clean" applications, since VDI functions are implemented using Xlib functions (so e.g. accelerated line routines of your graphics card may be used). · NEW: Support for a FreeMiNT file system (so you can even access the host file system with long file names!). · Joystick support (on Linux only at the moment). · Uses an X window (monochrome displays may still work with the monochrome ST mode, but this is untested) or SVGAlib with Linux. Requirements: · A TOS image file (a copy of the TOS ROMs dumped to a file) for TOS version 1.2, 1.4 or (best) 2.06. · At least 8 Megabytes of physical memory, 16 Megabytes are recommended. · A fast CPU - Recommended are a 486DX4-100 or something better. · GCC version 2.5.8 or higher or an ANSI C compiler (not thoroughly tested). · The M4 macro preprocessor. · X11 libraries (tested only with X11R5 and X11R6). · SVGAlib 1.2.10 if you want to compile in support for this.
