Gnome Simple Stateful Music Player Description

A music player designed to work with the GNOME desktop environment Gnome Simple Stateful Music Player (GSSMP) is a music player designed to work with the GNOME desktop environment. It does not store a database of all your music, but is designed to work with music files organised into directories. It is small, unobtrusive, and tries to do what you would expect, instead of asking you questions. It remembers which file was playing on exit, and continues that file from the same place when you start again. In the future it is planned to add multiple bookmarks that are automatically created whenever a track stops playing for any reason (e.g. you choose another track, you exit, or you pause.)GSSMP has been developed on Linux, but should theoretically work with any operating system that supports the standard GNOME environment.Requirements:· GTK+ version 2.2.x· gstreamer· gconf· gstreamer· mp3 plugin required for mp3 playbackInstalling:The easiest way to install GSSMP is to use a package created for your Linux distribution. However, for the moment you will probably have to use the binary tarball provided on this site. Before you startYou will need GNOME and gstreamer installed, and you will need gstreamer plugins for the music file formats you want GSSMP to play. On an Ubuntu system everything you need should be installed. If not, try this:sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktopIf you want to be able to play back mp3 files, and you're happy to install something that is not Free Software (details from Fluendo) you can install the Fluendo mp3 gstreamer plugin. On Ubuntu enable the universe repository and type:sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3Running the binary tarballDownload the latest version of the GSSMP binary tarball from the download page and untar and run it like so:tar -xjf gssmp-*-bin.tar.bz2 cd gssmp-*-bin/bin ./gssmp What's New in This Release: · This version includes 2 important bug fixes, and should now work for users with relatively recent versions of gstreamer.
