nFlux ubuntu 10.04 i686 Description

A Linux OS created from a triumvirate of the Best Linux distro’s available now! nFlux ubuntu 10.04 i686 is a LiveCD that can run from CD, USB, and Hard Drive in frugal persistent mode or traditional installed-to-Hard Drive mode (Slackware HD install postponed, but manual install is available). The nFlux Ubuntu version is the middleweight of the nFlux line at around 560MB-600MB with a similar application set to the Debian nFlux version. The Ubuntu specific boot parameters, persistent CD/USB info and general Ubuntu info can all be found at these linksUbuntu boot cheatcodeshttp://multidistro.com//distros/debian-based/parameters.txtUbuntu persistent CD/USBhttp://live.debian.net/manual/html/persistence.htmlUbuntu 10.04http://live.debian.net/Additionally; the Ubuntu and Debian RC2 versions also have Plop bootmanagerhttp://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.htmland NetbootCD 3.2.1http://netbootcd.tuxfamily.org/nFlux is a Linux OS created from a triumvirate of the Best Linux distro's available now, including Slackware Current(13), Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and Debian Squeeze! All are LiveCD's that can run from CD, USB, and Hard Drive in frugal persistent mode or traditional installed-to-Hard Drive mode (Slackware HD install postponed, but manual install is available). The only aims of nFlux will be to broaden the knowledge and usefulness of the Fluxbox Desktop in three of the best Linux distro's available. All three will contain these "standard" applicatons.Terminals:rxvt-unicode, xterm, terminator, and Terminal (xfce4-terminal)Network:Firefox 3.6.3 (Ubuntu/Slack)Iceweasel 3.5.9 (Debian)Flash 10+IrssiXchatGftpLinksLynxIrssiWifi-Radarwireless-toolsWICD or Network-Manageraircrack-ngwiresharkEditors,etc:KompozerLeafpadNanoGvimFile Managers,etc:PCMANFMRox-filerMidnightCommanderMultimedia:AudaciousAlsamixerguiAlsaplayerGxine(Slack)isomasterGravemanGraphics:GimpImagemagickGeeqieOffice:AbiwordGaiksaurusPlus there are misc applications and utilities specific to each OS, like sbopkg for Slackware and Ubuntu's many "helper" apps and settings, etc. As the name suggests, nFlux will always be "in flux"; as the distro evolves every attempt will be made to add or remove applications, scripts, etc in a effort to make each of the three varieties as similar to each other in form and function, without losing their identities.By size, the Debian version will always be the smallest because it doesn't need many "helper" applications Ubuntu uses that are almost inseparable from Ubuntu. The Ubuntu version is very similar to the Debian version, except it has many apps used solely for Ubuntu, plus any needed depends, such as language-pack-writing-en, etc.The Slackware Current version will probably always be the biggest, near 700MB, because of Slackware's unique binary/source makeup. Thus the Slackware version features all compiling and development tools needed to make packages, along with SBopkg and src2pkg.These first editions are fully working versions with fully updated apps. However, they should be regarded as RC2's for now, at least until 10.04 LTS, Squeeze, and Current become more mature.Install, etc info:Install to hard driveUse remastesys-installer in debian version, Ubiquity installer for the Ubuntu version.Note: it is best to login to root desktop, create a user, grant user certain admin priveledges and edit /etc/sudoers; logout of root desktop and login to user desktop you created, then run remastersys-installer or Ubuntu's ubiquity installer.Install to USBUse Unetbootin for debian version, use Ubuntu's USB creator for ubuntu version or Unetbootin. For persistent CD/USB, please see Debian and Ubuntu's persistent optionshere:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD/Persistencehttp://live.debian.net/manual/html/persistence.htmlHere's the build info:Window Manager:FluxboxDisplay Manager:Gnome Display Manager GDMUser Names & Passwords!Debian versionuser name: guestpassword: guestusername: rootpassword: toorPlease if any questions or comments, post them here:http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/announcing-nflux-linux;-a-fluxbox-oriented-trinity-of-distros-804611/ What's New in This Release: · Added Gnumeric and other minor apps, new 2.6.32-22-generic kernel · Changed fluxbox menu, upgraded all as of 05/05/2010
