FractalTreesX Description

Allows you to draw silhouettes of fractal trees FractalTreesX is a program that draws somewhat realistic silhouettes of binary trees with a fractal structure. FractalTreesX allows you to interactively change the properties of the tree, like the broadness, fullness, and number of branches.FractalTreesX allows you to introduce normal randomness into the length and angle of the branches.FractalTreesX is basically a toy and it can bring a lot of fun playing with it especially now when everything updates in real time. The tree is truly fractal in structure, because it exhibits self-similarity. Even with random elements invoked, it is still statistically self-similar. Here are some key features of "FractalTreesX": · Printing works properly now. When you print it will automatically scale the image to fit the page. You can print to "Preview" and save the PDF to save the image to disk · Little clean-up stuff, like turning off unused menu items, the about box, etc. · Draw a fractal tree with 2 to 14 branches of height · Adjust the randomness of branch lengths and angles from not random to very random · Print a high-resolution copy of the tree or save a PDF of the image Limitations: · Cannot save the tree as a data file · Cannot save the image, except as a PDF · Cannot enter parameters as numeric values · Changing the branches and randomness values is ugly when the tree is randomized · Set the colors to be used in drawing the tree · Updating gets slow when you increase the number of branches (depth) of the tree What's New in This Release: · first alpha release of 2.0 · complete rewrite of drawing engine · multithreaded randomization and drawing · MASSIVE simplification of code and line-count reduction!!! · draw to a buffer (NSImage) and then blit · switched license to just the GPL issues · the cached image only displays in the first drawRect: ... what's up with that? (but copy, print, etc. still work...) · i'm not going to bother with 10.1 support any more · saving and opening trees does not preserve the specific random values that were generated for that tree
