PodcastBuddy Description

Create iPod Notes for NetNewsWire Podcast feeds PodcastBuddy is a free AppleScript that uses NetNewsWire, iTunes, and the Notes Reader on iPods to automatically create iPod Notes for Podcast feeds. PodcastBuddy creates a note on your iPod for each podcast feed in Net- NewsWire which has unheard programs. The notes contain the text of the program’s story, the length of the program, and a hyperlink to the program so you can start listening to the program immediately from the show.InstallationTo run the script drag the PodcastBuddy Applescript and appscripts folder provided on this disk image to the NetNewsWire Scripts folder (This is in the Library:Application Support:NetNewsWire folder in your home directory). This will provide a PodcastBuddy item in the Net- NewsWire scripts menu. The Applescript is necessary for NetNewsWire to see and launch the PodcastBuddy script. If you want to install or run the script from any other location, you’ll have to alter the Applescript or use a launcher capable of running Unix scripts, like OnMyCommand.RunningYou will first need to have your iPod mounted in disk mode for the script to work. Run the PodcastBuddy script from the NetNewsWire scripts menu; You will see the MacPython icon in the dock. PodcastBuddy will create a note for each subscription that has audio enclosures that are both loaded into your iTunes library and not yet listened to. If the notes are longer than 4 KB, PodcastBuddy will create multiple notes, since the iPod cannot read notes longer than that. Also, PodcastBuddy will only create a note for the first appearance of a particular show in your NetNewsWire subscriptions. When the MacPython icon disappears, PodcastBuddy is done running. Eject your iPod and go to the notes reader. PodcastBuddy will have created a ”-Podcasts” folder in your notes section. Important: The ”-Podcasts” folder is deleted everytime PodcastBuddy is run, so don’t put anything you care about in there! If you want to rename the folder, edit the PodcastBuddy appscript. Requirements: · Appscript · NetNewsWire What's New in This Release: · PodcastBuddy ignore synthetic feeds (groups, script feeds, etc.) · PodcastBuddy lists shows in the reverse order from the feed order · Shows appearing in multiple feeds are associated with the topmost feed · Now supports iPods with unicode names · Automatically syncs iPod with iTunes when run · Increased default maximum note length · Improved syncing speed
