HABfiles Description

HABfiles was previously known as HAButil. It is often difficult to transfer data from one database or spreadsheet program to another. Although modern operating systems have very sophisticated means of transferring data from one application to another on the same computer, it can become much more difficult when you receive a file from some-one else by way of the internet or diskette. Text-files are a commonly-used lingua franca for transferring raw data in these circumstances. However experience soon teaches us that we are quite likely to meet problems with the use of text files. The HABFiles application was designed to be a simple tool that will solve many of these problems, including different means of delimiting fields and incompatible date formats. Computer users quite often need to transfer data created in one program to another. Since the way data is stored on disk by the source program is usually different from the way it is stored by the target program, this can cause difficulties. Text-files are very simple data-files that can be created and read by most spreadsheet and database programs (and by a number of other types of program as well). Please note that text-files transfer data only and not formatting such as fonts or alignment. To produce a text-file copy of your data, use the program that created the data-file to open the file and then click on the File menu and look for either a Save as or Export menu item. This item (or one of them) will probably have a text-file option. Look for items like text, csv, tab-delimited, comma delimited, or quotes and commas. To import text-file data into your spreadsheet or database, run the program and click on the File menu. Look for an Import item or, if you cannot see one, the Open item. Click on this menu item and look in the Files of type drop-down for a file-type that best matches the file. You may see an Options button that will allow you to get a better match or the program may provide an Import Wizard. NOTE: Free for non comercial use
