If this is your case, you can use JPEG Imager, a tool that helps you find the optimal balance between image quality and file size. JPEG Imager provides you with a number of ways to reduce the file size of your images with the minimum possible quality loss. For example, you can tweak the luminance quality, the chrominance quality, the filtering, and the subsampling scheme, among others. Basically, the program offers you a double panel where you can see both your original image and the results of the changes you apply to it. All those changes are reflected in the second panel in real time, so that you can choose to keep or to discard them as soon as you apply them. JPEG Imager can compress your images into three of the most effective compression formats: JPEG, PNG, and GIF. JPEG XR is another supported format, though it is still experimental. Besides, the program also offers you many basic image editing functions. These include resizing, rotation, color balance adjustment, flipping, cropping, color to gray scale conversion, text addition, and others. The program allows you to select a rectangular, polygonal or freehand area from your image to work with. Besides, you can also use this tool to acquire images directly from your scanner. Finally, JPEG Imager implements a batch processing module for you to optimize several files at once, though I found it hard to understand and use. In a nutshell, JPEG Imager is a powerful tool that helps you optimize and edit your image files in several ways.
