Mosaic Maker Extractor Description
Mosaic Maker Extractor is a compact and portable application that you can use to create mosaic pictures from a particular image, as well as extract frames from an existing mosaic. It is quite simple to work with, so there are no special requirements involved. Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can just drop the executable file anywhere on the hard drive and click it to run. As an alternative, you can move Mosaic Maker Extractor to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any workstation without prior installers. An important aspect to take into account is that the registry does not get new entries, and leftovers are not kept on the hard drive after removing the app. The interface is made from a single window where the mosaic creation and image extraction tasks are configurable in two separate panels. Images (BMP format) can be loaded into the list using only the file browser, since the drag-and-drop support is not featured. In the first panel you can create a list of tiles to be used in creating the mosaic; it may also include the previously loaded picture. In the following step it is possible to establish the tile size (in pixels) and characteristics (expand/shrink or truncate/cop tiles to the specified size), after which you can leave an optional gap between the mosaic tiles. When it comes to extracting images from an existing mosaic, you can set the tile size, allow a gap between the tiles, and restrict the program to extracting only the first image, all from the first row or column, or all pictures from all rows and columns. A task is quickly carried out and, at the end of it, Mosaic Maker Extractor shows log details concerning the start and estimated end date and time, along with the elapsed and estimated remaining time. As far as program settings go, you can enable the frame to stay on top of other windows, make Mosaic Maker Extractor auto-run at system startup, integrate it into the Explorer context menu, as well as restore settings to their factory values. The app has a good response time and uses a low amount of CPU and RAM to deliver images with fair quality. Unfortunately, Mosaic Maker Extractor has not been updated for a long time, and it has some stability issues on newer OS platforms. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on August 6th, 2013
