StarterBackgroundChanger is a Windows freebie aimed at Windows 7 Starter users who want to customize the desktop wallpaper with features available in the Professional or Ultimate version of Windows 7. Administrator privileges are needed from the beginning to the end because StarterBackgroundChanger attempts to modify registry entries during the installation process. The application can be launched by right-clicking on the desktop and hitting the “Personalize” option, just like you’d normally do in the aforementioned Windows versions. StarterBackgroundChanger thus helps you tweak the desktop wallpaper, working with the common formats on the market, including PNG, JPG and BMP. There are multiple pre-defined positions for each image, while users can also set up the app to automatically change the background at a defined interval. What’s more, the program also lets you adjust windows colors, sounds and screensavers, all from the comfort of your desktop, without even requiring a reboot. As you can see, StarterBackgroundChanger is not at all difficult to use, so the lack of a help file shouldn’t bother you too much, regardless of your computer experience. Still, keep in mind that the application works on Windows 7 Starter exclusively and it modifies Windows Registry entries, which means that administrator privileges are absolutely needed.
