Eve 3D Network Surveillance Description

Eve renders 3D visualizations of the network traffic in real-time and uses colour coding to indicate the difference between TCP, ICMP and UDP traffic.Eve graphically displays local hosts (on the same LAN) and remote hosts (outside subnet), as well as persistant TCP sessions.The Eve interface allows the user to move through their 3D network in much the same way as First Person Shooter video games do. The user is free to roam the 3D landscape looking for abnormal traffic or unusual hosts. Additionally, Eve supports practical logging features and statistical graphing.Eve also supports a delicious full screen demo mode which is ideal for use during meetings or as a screensaver.Eve is based on a sniffer library called libpcap which listens to traffic on the network and gathers information about who is talking to who and what they are saying. By building a real-time model of whats happening on the network, Eve can then render the information in a 3D environment. This particular way of displaying network data is somewhat "Hollywood" but we believe that a lot more information can be convayed in this manner than through just plain text.An example of Eve in action comes from the story of the lead development Mark working on an early version of the Eve prototype and noticing a stray connection to a german server which was later tracked to a piece of spyware not detected by his antivirus/antispyware solution.Limitations:· The trial version is fully functional but randomizes all it's data
