HDD Unlock Description

Resetting a hard drive in case the master password is lost or forgotten is a lengthy and quiet difficult task to carry out, especially without the proper tools at hand. Fortunately, there are some applications that can help you regain control over your device and HDD Unlock in one of them. Designed with practicality in mind, this utility works in a way which is very familiar to all PC users, namely through a wizard that takes it one step at a time to reach the ultimate goal of having the HDD ready for use again. One important thing you should note, though, is that this unlocking process will result in you losing irremediably all the data that is stored onto the target drive. However, if the hard disk had a password which is unrecoverable, you won't have any other choice unless you want to get stuck with an unusable HDD. As soon as you get the software up and running, it will scan the system to identify the connected devices. Another important mention that has to be made at this time is that HDD Unlock supports only the drives that are attached directly to the motherboard, more just the SATA and IDE units. In case you own a disk that has to be connected through the USB or FireWire ports, this program will not be able to help you. Also, RAID adapters are excluded from the equation, which leaves open just the two options mentioned above. Once HDD Unlock discovers the hard drives, you will be able to select the one that has to be processed and from then on, the application will do its job automatically. Depending on the size of the unit, the task may take anywhere from 25 minutes up to several hours. Thanks to its ease of use, HDD Unlock may be very well one of the optimal solutions for recovering a latched disk. However, it has a very limited device support which makes it useful only for the older IDE and SATA devices. Reviewed by Olivian Puha, last updated on October 24th, 2013
